“Happiness held is the seed; happiness shared is the flower.”
Dawn
The founding member and driving force behind Thistle & Thyme. Dawn came from a background in Early Childhood Education. Dedicated 25 years to teaching the littles. Caring for and nurturing little people and posies is a lifelong passion and love of hers. Gardening began for her back in the early 90’s whilst growing her greatest harvest, her children. Now grown with families of their own and two sweet grandsons to boot; she has been promoted to YaYa. When she’s not spending time with her little loves in the garden; she is planning, planting, propagating, and honing her floral artistry.
Our story:
When the world shut down in March of 2020, I threw myself back into gardening to manage stress. Gardening is and always has been therapy for me. I had been gardening for years but started growing cut flowers purely for enjoyment. During that time, I had a couple of health scares, and my garden was my respite. “The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature.” It proved to be just what I needed.
In 2021, I keep tossing around the idea of flower farming and in January of 2022, with no formal background in flower farming but an immense love of flowers and entrepreneurial spirit, I decided to give it a go .After retiring from teaching 30 years, I transitioned into growing flowers. I have loved flowers for as long as I can remember. It seemed only natural to go from caring for young children to caring for flowers. I spent the first year just learning and growing. In July of 2022, I sold my very first bouquet after a gentle nudging from a lovely friend; who owns a local garden center in my area. I had butterflies in my stomach dropping off that very first bouquet. Fast forward to May of 2023 and I officially registered my business. Confucius said, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”
We are a small urban farm in the San Gabriel Valley. Growing organically sustainable American and locally grown flowers from field to vase. Did you know that 78% of flowers in the U.S. are imported? We are proud members of The Slow Flower Society. A flower movement, that is a catalyst to encourage, promote community and collaboration among individuals with a passion for flowers. A LOVE for how flowers promote social, emotional, and mental well-being. Encouraging one to think about how flowers ae grown and where they come from.
Flowers are meant to be shared. It brings me so much JOY to grow them and send them out into the world!
“Gardens and flowers have a way of bringing people together, Drawing them from their homes.”

Thank you Dawn for being warm, friendly, and the kindest of souls. I’m so glad to have met you and that you allow me to pick your brain about Dahlias and all things flowers! Thanks for encouraging a love of Dahlias and for being a guide and floral fairy god mother!
Thank you also for helping me start my own small garden of dahlias. Such a beautiful gift!

I am always blown away with the arrangements that Dawn puts together for me!!! The blooms are stunning, and you can tell they were grown with so much love and care. The freshness and vibrant colors of the bouquets are unlike anything I have found at large retailers. They couldn’t be any fresher as they are cut the day she assembles the bouquet. Knowing that they are locally grown makes the arrangements even more special. I love supporting a local business that puts so much heart into what they do. I highly recommend Dawn to anyone looking for beautiful, fresh cut flowers.
